Treat mum for an afternoon of talks and trails at the Museum of Brands this Mother’s Day

Hear the story of how the Museum was created, it's first exhibition at the V&A in 1974 and the philosophy of the collection. Explore the history of Mother’s Day, and how mums have been portrayed in the media, whether playing family games in Edwardian times, gathering around the 1920s radio, or promoting everything from biscuits to soap.

Inevitably, women’s liberation is part of this evolution – from suffragettes to wartime factories, the DIY revolution to kitchen convenience. This event complements the Museum's focus on Women in Advertising launching 8 March.

Above all, the Museum is the place to be, not only to appreciate the role of mothers, but also to reminisce and remember treasured moments triggered by brands such as Spangles, Kellogg’s County Store and Lyon Maid ice lollies.

Alongside talks, trails and the Time Tunnel, don’t miss our current exhibition, ‘250 Years of Jigsaws’ and try The Brands that Made Britain jigsaw in the Branding Hall. Finish with coffee, cakes and sandwiches in our café.

Tickets include:

  • A 40 minute talk delivered by the Museum's Learning team
  • A specially made trail on the portrayal of mothers and families in the Museum

  • Admission to the Museum's permanent displays and temporary exhibitions

Catch either the 2pm or 3pm repeated talk and spend the afternoon reminiscing with the whole family.
