FLAVOUR OF THE MONTH
On 16 May smell specialist and author of Perfume: A Century of Scents, Odette Toilette and flavourist and founder of Omega Ingredients, Steve Pearce treated audiences at the Museum of Brands to a tasting event like no other.
With an evening dedicated to the art and science of flavourings, we began with sampling tastes from our pasts, including the neat flavour behind mushroom Cuppa Soup! We then enjoyed an interactive talk exploring the development of different flavourings. It was amazing to learn just how many types of strawberry flavour we consume! The event was well attended and the audience, including guests from Time Out, Food Manufacture and Stylus, had a fantastic time engaging with flavours and revisiting the tastes of our childhoods.
Coming up next: Science of Memory Making on the 10th June with Hamish McPharlin, Head of Insight at BBC Global News, Nudge, Shove, or Shock with Alex Aiken, Executive Director of Government Communications on 17th June and Create the Perfect Brand, on the 24th June with Paul Hitchens, Author and Brand Consultant.

About Odette Toilette
Lizzie Ostrom aka Odette Toilette is fascinated by our sense of smell. She’s hosted hundreds of events that open up the world of scent, from the aromas of outer space, to recreations of ancient scent rituals including mummification. Lizzie wrote a pop culture history of perfume, Perfume: A Century of Scents, and co-curated Somerset House’s exhibition on modern scent culture. She’s now bringing the same sense of curiosity to the world of flavour and its relationship with fragrance. Lizzie loves Monster Munch crisps (Roast Beef, none of your Pickled Onion) and will always accept a Mini Milk ice lolly.
